Execution through Elimination

Having a brilliant business model, marketing plan and strategy won’t matter if you’re not taking action and making something happen.  The crucial part of bringing anything to life is getting out there and pouring in the hours and sweat equity - otherwise known as execution.

I’m not going to write a long winded or motivational post of what it takes to execute on a daily basis and constantly improving whatever it is your doing.  Rather, I’m going to write about focusing on the important issues, allowing you to be more productive, while kicking ass at the same time.

Atlas statue at Rockefeller Center in NYC - also on the cover of Atlas Shrugged.
I submitted my application form to be one of the four startups to take part in ”Extreme University” chosen by Extreme Venture Partners.
Last week, after a short trip to NYC with Irene, we ran into the Atlas statue outside the Rockefeller Center.  It reminded me of some of the books I’ve read over the last year or so, “The Foundtainhead” and “Atlas Shrugged” (featured on its cover) by Ayn Rand.
I know I gave it my best shot in articulating the vision and value proposition of dateideas.ca, especially with the help of my “Editor-in-Chief”.
Hopefully the partners can sense my passion for building something of value that affects people who are dating or in relationships on a profound level and choose us as one of the four.  I want to change the world of dating for the better.
I’m both excited and nervous of what may or may not happen.  At this point, I’ve already gone for broke and have nothing to lose - wish us luck! :)

Freelancing To Follow Your Dreams

So it’s been a little over a month since I left my full time job and made the jump to work on my website http://www.cheapdateideas.ca on more of a full-time basis while I do freelance work on the side.

When I decided to make the jump, I thought it was best (and by best, I mean the most “risk averse way”) to follow my dreams by doing some freelance to augment my income and more importantly, free up time during the day to work on the project.  I had effectively bumped myself down from full-time to part-time work.  I say I’m “risk averse” because I haven’t truly cut the umbilical cord… yet.

Entrepreneurship

“My mindset is like a marathon. My effort is like a sprint” - Gary Vaynerchuk

So it’s been a few months now where I’ve considered myself to be a fledgling first-time”entrepreneur”.

It’s funny how out of improving my dating life, a relentless journey in personal development, sucking at accounting, and a few girlfriends later I’ve decided that I wanted to become an “entrepreneur”. I want to pursue create something of value for the world. I want to become a “value creator” instead of a “value extractor”. I want to live life by my standards and as such I’ve had to question myself on a daily basis of how badly I want this.
