Analytics & Entrepreneurship

Book 1 of 6 arrived…

“My mindset is like a marathon.  My effort is like a sprint” - Gary Vaynerchuk

So it’s been a few months now where I’ve considered myself to be a fledgling first-time”entrepreneur”.

It’s funny how out of improving my dating life, a relentless journey in personal development, sucking at accounting, and a few girlfriends later I’ve decided that I wanted to become an “entrepreneur”.  I want to pursue create something of value for the world.  I want to become a “value creator” instead of a “value extractor”.  I want to live life by my standards and as such I’ve had to question myself on a daily basis of how badly I want this.

Yes, the cheesy website “cheapdateideas.ca” is going to grow up.  I’ve talked to a few of my close friends and colleagues and I’ll be rebranding the website for the new year and hopefully move towards a platform that isn’t Wordpress.

Like everyone else, I feel I’m meant to do more than just be some paper pusher or bean counter, pumping out reports for some incompetent middle manager, waiting for my chance to move up the ladder.

I’m not doing this with my head stuck up in the clouds as I’ve done my research.  I know I can do this better than anyone else out there and figured out my unique value proposition, especially after reading Business Model Generation.

What I’m doing right now, I’d do for free anyway, because I derive so much meaning and joy out of it.  I’m learning and growing on at an accelerated pace, especially after watching Mixergy for the last few months now. I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.   If anyone wants to keep up with that, then good luck.

So what about my job and such?  I’m not quitting it. I’m not in the financial condition to do so.  I’ve been making moves to work for a company I’ve admired for quite some time as well as the super smart people that work there.  My brain will be like a huge sponge, soaking up everything I learn on the job, and hopefully I can apply what I’ve learned in Web Analytics so far and leverage my strengths.

Cheap Date Ideas is a passion project that I will be spearheading after work and any free time left over.  I’ll be bootstrapping every step of the way.  Doing this literally costs me next to nothing, except time, a helluva lot of sweat equity, smart maneouvering and patience - all of which I have plenty of.

Things feel like they are coming together, I just have to be persistent, patient and focus on creating solid content.  Some people don’t realize how bloody serious I am about what I want to create for the world.  NOTHING will detract me or throw me off see my vision come to life, short of getting myself killed.  I’ve only articulated my full vision to a few trusted friends.  It may change as I have to adapt my strategy along the way.  In any case, you’ll see the fruits of my labour slowly unravel over the upcoming year.  I’ve got a chip on my shoulder and I’m not fucking around in the slightest.

Stop by once every so often.  It’ll be pure hustle and passion.  I can’t wait to share with you what I have in store over the next few months :)
